Smythen is an indie comic series created and written by Zanderfist, drawn by Char Reed, edited by S. R. Lewis, with cover art by red penguin.

"Smythen tells the story of Elliott Erdington, an early-to-mid-20s man in the West Midlands, UK, who -- after a string of failed dates -- is encouraged by his draconic, polyamorous roommate Lydaeria the Liquifier to install the beta for a new dating app on the market -- SMYTHEN. This leads him into a perilous and awkward journey into the world of 'mythies', where he may find love... or he may be sacrificed to underworldly gods."

The idea came to me in 2020 when, mid-pandemic, I found myself using dating apps like Bumble, Hinge and Tinder to connect with people and have random, nonsensical conversations to maintain my sanity in the weirdest time the modern world has ever endured.

Out of that came an idea for a comedic, romantic comic book that would pair the world of modern dating to the much wider (but equally as tragic) world of mythology.

We Kickstarted SMYTHEN #1 in March 2024, and raised a total of £2,853 to turn Smythen from a myth into a reality.

Now... it's time to bring Smythen to the world! And with your patronage, we may just be able to make SMYTHEN #2 and continue the story of Elliott finding love in an unlikely place...
